The Georgia Startup Ecosystem in 2025

An insider's look at Tbilisi's growing tech scene — what's working, what's missing, and where the opportunities are.

I've been building startups in Georgia for 7 years. The ecosystem has changed dramatically — mostly for the better.

What's Working

Talent is abundant and affordable. Georgian developers are skilled, hungry, and significantly cheaper than their EU/US counterparts. This is a massive advantage for early-stage startups.

Government support is real. GITA, Enterprise Georgia, and various innovation programs provide grants, co-working spaces, and international exposure. Not perfect, but better than most post-Soviet countries.

The community is tight-knit. Everyone knows everyone. You can get a warm intro to almost any founder, investor, or government official within 2 degrees of separation.

What's Missing

Series A and beyond. There's seed money available, but scaling a Georgian startup past $1M ARR almost always requires looking abroad for funding.

Enterprise customers. The local market is small (3.7M people). Startups need to think regional or global from day one.

Experienced mentors. We have successful businesspeople, but few who've built and exited tech companies specifically. This gap is closing, slowly.

Where the Opportunities Are

  • B2B SaaS for the region — Turkey, Central Asia, and the Caucasus are underserved markets with growing digital adoption.
  • EdTech — Georgia's education system is ripe for disruption. Young people are hungry for skills-based learning.
  • FinTech — Banking infrastructure exists but the UX is stuck in 2015. There's room for modern financial products.

My Prediction

By 2027, we'll see the first Georgian tech startup raise a proper Series A from a top-tier international VC. The talent and ambition are here. The ecosystem just needs a few more proof points.

What I'm Doing About It

That's exactly why we built Sparker — to accelerate the ecosystem by connecting founders, running hackathons, and creating pathways from idea to funded startup.
